General Info: Paris is a city worth visiting all year round: whether you are planning just a short break of few days, as we did, or you want to explore it for several weeks, it is not going to disappoint you.
We decided to make the best we could with our week-end. We mainly walked when moving to reach a desired place and we preferred moving by bus rather than metro when possible.
Of course there are many places worth visiting, but in just 3 days, we managed to have a nice sightseeing of Paris (even if to be honest, the weather was quite bad!).

TRAVEL PLAN

Day Area What to Do
1 London – Paris In the morning Easy Jet flight from London to Paris (1h). We arrived at the airport at 10.30a.m. We asked at the turist information office about the best ticket options:

  • Paris Airport Ticket from airport to the city centre (and return);
  • 2 Paris Visite Ticket for 3 days-zone 1,2,3 (travelling by metro or buses);

We took the train from airport to metro Opera. We checked in at London Hotel and walked from Boulevard des Italiens to tour Eiffels (nice, but long walk: 2-3 hrs at a slow pace). Along the route:

For lunch we simply stopped at a patisserie and bought 2 baguettes,

then we had the Champ de Mars, seating on a bench looking at the Tour Eiffels. It took us roughly 30 minutes to enter in the tower (to avoid part of the cue, we recommend to buy tickets on line), then we spent roughly 45 minutes at 2nd floor (where we also stopped for a hot choccolate given the very cold weather), 30 minutes at the 3rd floor, and finally another 20 min at the 1st level, where we stopped on the way down. You can skip the first level and go straight to the ground floor as the view is less impressive in comparison with second and third levels, but we suggest you to visit this level for the many interactive games and machines that allow you to explore the history of the Eiffels tower and its presence in pop culture (movies and posters).

Finally we headed to Latin District (catching a bus) where we walked around and had dinner in a creperie (Nice and fun decor, pretty good food with a good service).

Creperie des Arts
27 Rue Saint Andre des Arts,

2 Paris We had the breakfast in the EXKY: it is a self-service place characterised by a nice and relaxed environment (and very nice pan au chocolat and coffee!). Then we reached the Ile de la Cité by bus and had a walk around to see historical buildings (going towards the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris (2hrs visit, including less than 30 minutes of cue and the audioguide path). From there, we tried to enter the bell tower, but the long cue discouraged us and we decided for a walk along the Seine river, before entering the metropolitan line and go to the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (famous for the tombs of Honoré de Balzac, Jean de La Fontaine, Molière, Jim Morrison, Camille Pissarro and Oscar Wilde among the others). This is classic tuoristic place, but it is still a quiet walk in the area mostly covered with monumental small chapels and graves.
Late in the afternoon we moved to Mont Martre district (via metro). We walked to reach the Basilique du Sacre Coeur to see Paris from the top of the hill at around dusk and explore the famous Place du Tertre (where there are still talented artists some also working on portraits for the turists). In the evening, we walked towards Pigalle District famous for its reputation as Paris’s centre for “sleaze” where you can find famous clubs like the Boule Noire, La Cigale and La Machine du Moulin Rouge. We stopped just for a few photos and went on to reach Marais District to have dinner in one of the small streets surrounding the Pompidou centre.
3 Paris – London The last day we had few hours to spend visiting the city, before having to move to the airport. We then first took the bus to reach the Musee du Louvre and see the building from the outside (huge cue at the entrance and the museum itself would take at least a whole day), we crossed the Jardin des Tuileries stopping at the Triumph Arch. Finally, we crossed the Seine River to reach the unmissable (for lovers of impressionist painters) Musee d’Orsay: 3hrs visit. While at the museum, if you want to stop for a lunch, don’t miss the Café Campana at the fifth level, where you can have a meal or a cofee while seating behind the huge clock of the -former- Gare d’Orsey.
End of trip – flight back to London from Paris
